Alex Grey is an American visionary artist that specializing in spiritual and psychedelic art that is sometimes associated with the New Age movement.

I was first introduced to Alex Grey by my Reflexology instructor, Yvette Eastman. She had many framed images of what I thought were just anatomical pictures of the body but at a closer look I was mesmerized by their integrate detail and beauty of each pieces. I was hooked!

Alex Grey helps you view more than just anatomy.

Not only did it have the anatomy of the body detailed, it also had other energy systems of the body like the Chakra system, the Meridian system and often symbols from different ancient world systems. This is greatly important for anyone who is in the healing profession since having a clear visual of how these metaphysical systems works with our own biological anatomical system can help understand a client and gives more tools to work with.

What I love about Alex Grey’s work:

  • The ability to combine all the elements of textbook anatomy with all the metaphysical elements of the body seamlessly into a single stunning image.
  • X-Ray quality – The body is viewed in a way where race, colour of skin is taken out of the picture and you can see the truth of the body.
  • The use of the colour: effortlessly combine all the detail of many layers with vivid colour and still have all the elements clearly distinguishable.

When I created my Reflexology charts I had so much inspiration from Alex Grey. I also find that having his art on my walls is a clear reminder of how amazing, divine and sacred our bodies really are.
